I Want Everything To Do With Snape
Snape have emerged from 2017 as one of the DIY scene’s most hyped acts. Today I sink my teeth into the band’s latest single Never Wanted Anything off their upcoming debut album Always.
It’d be all too easy to write Snape off as a gimmick project if they weren’t so undeniably incredible. Evolving from a solo project and blossoming out of the bedroom and onto the stage with a fully-fledged band over the years, Snape write songs through the exploration of their namesake anti-hero’s emotion. The rawness in this approach cuts the initial artifice of their song writing and makes Snape a visceral and deeply relatable musical experience for anyone who has found themself an outsider.
Always, soon to be released on One Brick Today, is a collection of ten songs promising to play as 80s shoe-gaze with it’s foundations firmly rooted in the punk and metal scene in which the band cut their teeth. Lead single Never Wanted Anything is a beautiful, slow churning and big building number that sweeps you into it’s charms before launching you off waves of buzzed out guitars and billowing vocals. Bold yet sensitive, unique and unabashed in every essence. Never Wanted Anything would be an exciting first offering for any project but is particularly exciting when put in the context of being a taste of nine more songs to come from one of Sydney’s finest groups.
