PREMIERE: Keeskea - You Did
Get ready to be completely floored in the most beautiful of ways. Today, I am thrilled to bring you the debut single of Brisbane soloist Keeskea 'You Did'.
With no music released Keeskea, the solo moniker of Vanessa Marousopoulos, had landed herself support slots for Stella Donnelly, Jess Locke and Jen Buxton; an impressive feat for any singer songwriter let alone without music out. Yet, it takes just 7 seconds of Keeskea's debut single You Did to make you realise why the artist's reputation is so highly revered.
Lofty and delicate yet fiercely present and potent, You Did, is a seamless exercise in self harmonisation and simplistic beauty. Keeskea's vocal sounds ready to soar or break at any given point in a deftly unguarded performance that seduces its listener and lulls you into the song.
A soft song of empowerment, You Did, was written about a moment of discovery in the midst of a toxic relationship in which you find your voice and ability to speak up. Recorded and produced in a mixture of places throughout the back end of 2018 by Marousopoulos herself before being mixed and mastered for release by Tristan Hoogland.
You Did is a stunning first debut from an artist I couldn't be more excited by.
You can catch Keeskea live this weekend if you're around the Newcastle region as she takes to the stage at Embraced In Thought. A live art, poetry and music event at Woodriver Studios.
