PREMIERE: Moaning Lisa - Carrie (I Want A Girl) Official Film Clip

Laundry Echo is stoked to be bringing you the official film clip for Carrie (I Want A Girl), the latest offering of Canberra’s finest Moaning Lisa. Plug your headphones in and get comfortable, you’re going to be watching this one start to finish, then bringing it back to the start to watch again.

Moaning Lisa have come a long way since recording their debut single Comfortable in former drummer Andy’s bedroom. Headline shows all over the country, sharing stages with the likes of Camp Cope, Ball Park Music and Ali Barter, national airplay on Triple J and a simple three fingered plan to cut the bullshit behaviour out of their crowd's behaviour that went viral and was picked up by national media. It’s been a whirlwind two years that is about to pick up into a hurricane with the release of their biggest single to date Carrie (I Want A Girl).

A true anthem for the queer community about loving women and a direly needed one. Carrie (I Want A Girl) gives you all of 13 seconds to get ready for a complete onslaught of grunge laden guitar tones, belting drums and powerful harmonies. Carrie (I Want A Girl) is musically a huge step up for a band that has already been moving in leaps and bounds since forming in early 2016.

Working with Ben Moore (Tim Rogers, Sarah Blasko, Iggy Pop) out of Harvest Recordings in Marrickville, it feels like the band have finally found a producer able to carry their live show to track. Losing none of their infectious and overwhelming energy in the process. Moaning Lisa long known as one of the best live bands in the country, are finally being heard in the light they deserve by the listener who can’t make a live show.

Named after rock icon Carrie Brownstein and referencing every queer identifying woman in popular culture or music you can think of, the song is a powerful celebration of sexuality and self-determination. First written at 3am on a ukele and brought to the band to flip the originally melancholic lament to the empowering anthem it is now.

When it came to producing the film clip for the song Moaning Lisa went to their community of fans, peers and friends; asking them to record themselves singing and living out their own personal relationship to the song. Resulting in a film clip featuring shows of support from the likes of Antonia & The Lazy Susans, Huntly and Georgia Maq.

You’re going to want to hit repeat.

You can catch Moaning Lisa live pretty much everywhere in the country as they tour the new single:
