Ruby Gill's Your Mum Is Going To Completely Floor You

Ruby Gill's Your Mum Is Going To Completely Floor You

Every now and then a song shows up that that is so remarkably beautiful it shuts the world around you out. Ruby Gill’s latest single Your Mum is awe-inspiring and isolating in the way it does just that.

On Your Mum, Ruby Gill, delivers radiance and genuine heartbreak in equal measures. Every moment of musicality that captures you is bedded in a lyric so acutely relatable that it bends something intangible inside of you back on itself to the point of breaking. It’s a rare, untouchable and unexplainable listening experience that makes music feel like magic.

Your Mum completely disarms its listener. The unassuming nature of the stark, minimal production combined with the warmth of Gill’s voice whilst delivering a ballad of breaking sucks you in before knocking you flat. Lyrics like "Did you think I was fine? Do I look fucking fine?" swing the hammer whilst the quake in Gill’s voice going big ensures you don’t stand up. Your Mum is genius and genuine.

Even with a back catalogue of songs that I’ve previously labelled “stunning” or “remarkable”, Ruby Gill, has produced the surprise release of the year in Your Mum. In doing so also launching herself undeniably into an elite league of Australian singer songwriters of any genre.

Ruby Gill is touring extensively throughout November and December with Lime Cordiale and has been announced on the line-up for Woodford Folk Festival. See all dates and events here.
