The Film Clip Of The Year Is Here Already
Newy's most endearing pop punks underachiever have returned with their latest single and film clip ‘Restart’. Complete with character selection, load screens, an omniscient dog and finding the secret tape; ‘Restart” is a romp of nostalgia with the greatest video game ever made... Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2.
Immediately ripe with sounds ripped straight out of early noughties Blink 182, Restart, makes no effort to hide it's influences and I'm glad it doesn't. This is a faultless execution of an audible time capsule. Listening I felt immediately taken back to figuring out how to play four chord punk songs with my high school band... But for some reason, suddenly we sound bloody great.
Lyrically however, Restart, dives deeper than most songs of it's musical influence's era. With a leaf taken from fourth generation emo bands such as Modern Baseball and The Smith Street Band the normally aggressive and outward arrow of expression is reflectively pointed inwards. Exploring a relapse into anxiety, and the depression which comes with it, frontman Dan Foster flips the coin on these emotional periods of doubt and keeps a clear focus on self-care and a sense of desperate optimism to get better.
Restart is a brilliant taste of things to come of the band's soon to be released sophomore EP this time i'll stay good which 12 days into the year, is already promising to be one of the releases of the year.
